Election Election is a traditional astrological technique used to choose the optimum time to do something. In the same way as the chart for the time of a person's birth describes their life, so does the chart for the beginning of any other entity (for example, a business or marriage). Modern thought holds that time is a constant. Like the ticking clock, time is thought of as an homogenous entity, that each moment of time is identical to the one before, and so on. Yet this is not so. We have all had days that flew by, and others that seemed to last an eternity. We have all had experiences which, while identical in form, have not been the same in practise. For example, you may meet your friend two Mondays in a row in the same coffee shop and get on famously one week, but have nothing to say to one another the next. In the same way as some soil is barren and some is fertile, so some moments of time are fertile while others are not. The passage of the seasons makes this abundantly clear: no farmer would plant his potatoes in December! Some moments of time are more suited to one purpose than another: astrology allows us to describe and anticipate these variations and to harness them to our advantage. Simple election can be done on the basis of a horary chart. However, for a more important and effective election the birth charts of the relevant individual(s) must be taken into account, to ensure that the election chart connects harmoniously with the persons concerned. Note that this is not magic: election will not cause your enterprise to succeed! However, it can increase your chances of success through your being in harmony with the universe, moving with the currents of life rather than against them.
